MRS JONES:
Mrs Jones is the newest member to our sailing history. She is a Bruce Farr designed Mumm 36 that carries a PHRF rating of 51. In 2009 she finished 19th overall in the Chicago to Mackinac race. She is big enough to be very comfortable, yet not so big to be overwhelming in cost and crew requirements. Our plans are to race her out of Michigan City, do the Noods in Chicago, The Queens Cup, The Mackinac Race,  and the Tri-State Race.

Mrs Jones ready for the water!

My Sailing History:

I have been sailing for over 30 years. This year marks my 30 anniversity of my first Chicago Mackinac Race. During this year's Bayview Mackinac Race I was asked what boats, I have raced on, and you know what I was having a hard time remembering. What I will try to do is start out is work my way through it.

The boats were:

Cadence (3) Ted Reese Skipper, Unicorn (5) Mike Jones Skipper, Middaysun (1) Sherm Atkins Skipper, Lascivious (1), Shadowax (4) Hugh Griffin Skipper, Panaciea (4) Bob Castle Skipper, Spirit Walker (4) Vern McCain Skipper, Lost Boys (1) Mark Beatty and now (7) with Mrs. Jones Mike Jones Skipper. I believe this makes a total of 29 Mackinac Races, but I am not totally sure.

In 1976 I was racing on an Irwin Competition 30 called "Cadence". It was owned by Ted Reese from Long Beach.

In 1979 We purchased the "Unicorn" a J-30, one of the first J-30's anywhere. In 1981, 1982 and 1983, we won "Boat of the Year" with her. In 1894 we purchased the 41 Tartan foot "Unicorn", which we owned till 1987. In addition to the Chicago Mackinac races with the J-30 "Unicorn" we won MCYC "Boat of the Year" in 1981, 1982, and 1983.

In 1979 the J-30 was considered a very fast boat, and by the IOR Rule we were forced into Division 1, which had the likes of "Wizo" a very fast 39 footer. One note about the "Unicorn", a couple of years ago the Polish Sailing Team took it with a more favorable rating and came very close to winning 1st overall in the Chicago Mackinac Race!

"Lascivious" was used in a NIPSCO Michigan City Generating Station Brochure in 1988. It is an 'Erickson 36", that I borrowed for the day, and we borrowed it for that purpose.
